PFLAG Granby

DEIA Policy

PFLAG Granby is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible environment for all LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and allies. A strong community thrives when all voices are heard, valued, and respected. LGBTQ+ people and their families face unique challenges, and this statement aims to create a space that actively addresses disparities and promotes the well-being of everyone.

Diversity

Our chapter embraces and celebrates the rich diversity within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. This includes, but is not limited to, diversity in:

  • Race, ethnicity, and country of origin: We are committed to actively engaging and supporting communities of color within the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
  • Gender: We affirm and celebrate all gender identities and expressions including transgender, cisgender, and non-binary individuals.
  • Sexuality: We champion the rights and experiences of all sexual orientations, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and others.
  • Disability Status: We are dedicated to creating an accessible and welcoming environment for individuals with disabilities.

Equity

PFLAG Granby is committed to actively identifying and dismantling barriers that lead to inequity within the organization and the broader community. The goal is to create fair opportunities for all, ensuring that every individual has the support they need to thrive. This commitment includes advocating for policies and practices that:

  • Promote equal access to resources and opportunities.
  • Address the systemic injustices that disproportionately affect marginalized LGBTQ+ individuals, including people of color, women, and people of faith.
  • Work to reduce rates of violence and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and other marginalized communities.
  • Support the well-being and safety of LGBTQ+ youth and families.

Inclusion

PFLAG Granby aims to create a welcoming and affirming environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging and can participate fully. The chapter embraces open dialogue and mutual respect, recognizing that each individual’s perspective enriches the community. The organization is dedicated to:

  • Ensuring that all voices are heard and valued in discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Providing support and resources that are accessible and responsive to the needs of the diverse membership.
  • Fostering a culture of empathy and understanding, where individuals are encouraged to learn from one another’s experiences.
  • Promoting open and respectful conversations about sexual orientation and gender identity.

Accessibility

PFLAG Granby is committed to making events, meetings, and resources physically and digitally accessible to everyone. Accessibility practices will be continuously evaluated and improved to ensure that individuals with mental or physical disabilities can fully participate in the chapter’s activities.

Our Commitment

This DEIA statement is a living document that guides actions and aspirations for our chapter. PFLAG Granby is dedicated to ongoing self-assessment, education, and advocacy to ensure these values are upheld. All members and allies are invited to join in building a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

  • Socioeconomic Status: We recognize the impact of socioeconomic factors, and strive to be an accessible and inclusive organization for people from all backgrounds.
  • Body Size: We promote body positivity and respect for individuals of all body sizes.
  • Religion and Faith: We welcome and respect people of all faiths and those with no religious affiliation or belief. We believe that being a person of faith and an LGBTQ+ person are not mutually exclusive.
  • Education Level and Age: We value the contributions of individuals from all educational backgrounds and across all generations.
